Play the puzzle A picture from this book, from 4 big pieces up Hello young readers, I am the heroine of these children’s books, and I am 8 years old! These stories are from my life and I have told them to my parents. My parents have created these books so that I can share my adventures with you. I hope you enjoy reading about my experiences as much as I enjoyed living them. Remember, just like me, you are special and can do amazing things. And always remember, your parents love you very much. With love and adventure, Yours Whyia
Once upon a time, Whyia and her mom went to the store to buy groceries. As they waited in line at the checkout, Whyia spotted a piggy bank with the inscription «for charity».
“Mama, what does charity mean?” asked Whyia. “Charity is when people give money to help others in need,” replied her mom. “Why do people need help?” asked Whyia. “Well, some people don’t have enough food, clothes, or a place to live, and others give to help them out,” her mom explained.
Later that day, Whyia met her friend Phoebe and told her all about the charity piggy bank she saw.
“So, do you understand what charity means?” asked Phoebe.
“I’m still not sure, but I want to fi nd out,» said Whyia. “Look at me; here I stand! Not a girl, but a bird instead!” Whyia turned into a bird and fl ew out of town to explore.
She found a farm and decided to turn into a pig to ask the other pigs about charity. So, she repeated her spell.
“Look at me; here I stand! Not a bird, but a pig instead!” She walked over to the other pigs and asked them, “Why do you have that piggy bank at the store?”
“When we needed a new pigsty, we collected money for charity to build one,” explained one of the pigs.
Whyia understood this example and turned back into a bird to return to Phoebe.
“The pigs showed me an example of charity — their new pigsty,” said Whyia.
“Wow, that’s really cool! We should do something like this, too,” said Phoebe.
But then the girls realized they didn’t know how to help others. So Whyia tried a new kind of spell, “Look at us; here we stand! Not little girls, but birds instead!”.
Wow! It worked! Phoebe turned into a bird as well! She was amazed and didn’t know what to say…
“It’s time to fl y,” Whyia decided, and they fl ew out to fi nd the wise owl.
“Hello, wise owl. Can you help me and my friend Phoebe understand what charity is?” asked Whyia.
“Of course, little ones. Let’s fl y to the city, and I’ll show you,” said the owl.
The owl showed them a sports ground, and they flew above the sportsmen who were training in the fresh air. “People want to have a place to train for sport,” the owl began, “But they didn’t have one, so they used the charity method: everybody gave some money, and the building of the ground became possible!”
They saw paths for the elderly and fl ew above the old people who were walking calmly, without children running around them.
“The elderly needed a place to walk calmly,” the owl said. “But they didn’t have one, so people started to give money, and here it is!”
They even saw children’s books that others had donated! “The children here needed to read books that could explain everything in this world,” said the owl, “So people decided to give them the books they needed. You see, charity is about everyone helping everyone,” explained the owl. “It’s about making a difference in the world by giving what you can to help others.”
They flew back to the playground, and Whyia said, “Look at us; here we stand! Not as birds, but as little girls instead!”
“Oomph, I’m a girl again,” said Phoebe. “I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to transform me back, and I didn’t want to be a bird forever. I’d like to read the wonderful books we saw!”
Whyia smiled. She was happy she was able to share her adventures with her best friend.
“Whyia, we should collect money to help people too! What are you thinking?” asked Phoebe.
“I think we should help fi x things that are broken and would normally be thrown away. For example, your teddy bear!” suggested Whyia.
“That’s a great idea! My teddy bear broke, and my brother wants to throw it away. But we were told that more garbage is a disaster for the planet!” exclaimed Phoebe. “Whyia, let’s raise money to fi x torn teddy bears!”
nd so, the two friends set out to collect money for their new charity project.
They knew that by helping others, they could make the world a better place, one teddy bear at a time.
